Karo Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. shortening
    3 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. sugar
    4 tsp. baking powder
    3 egg whites
    1 c. Karo syrup (white or dark)
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 egg yolks
    1 c. milk
Preparation
    Cream shortening.
    Add sugar and half of Karo gradually. Cream until fluffy.
    Add egg yolks one at a time and beat well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
    Add vanilla and beaten egg whites.
    Add remaining Karo gradually, beating until stiff meringue is formed.
    Add to batter.
    Makes 2 layers.
    Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in 350\u00b0 oven until done.
