Crisp Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

5 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers
6 medium onions, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, split
1/2 c. salt
crushed ice
5 c. sugar
2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 Tbsp. mustard seed
3 c. vinegar
Preparation

Place cucumbers, onions and garlic cloves in a large pan; add salt. Cover with crushed ice and mix thoroughly; let stand for 3 hours. Drain thoroughly. Combine sugar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed and vinegar in large kettle. Bring just to a boil. Add cucumbers and onions. Bring just to a boil; heat through. Seal in hot, sterilized jars.
