Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    lettuce
    1/2 c. celery, chopped
    1/2 c. onion, chopped
    1/2 c. sweet pepper, chopped
    mayonnaise
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 small can English peas, drained
    bacon bits or fried bacon
    8 oz. cheese
Preparation
    In medium bowl, shred half bowl of lettuce.
    Mix together celery, onion and sweet pepper.
    Spread layer over lettuce, then spread English peas.
    Whip enough mayonnaise to make layer 1/4-inch thick; sprinkle sugar over mayonnaise.
    Top with grated cheese.
    Sprinkle on bacon bits.
    Cover tightly and refrigerate 24 hours.
