Indian Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 c. milk
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2/3 c. maple syrup
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    2/3 c. cornmeal
    1/3 c. molasses
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    1 c. raisins (optional)
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 300\u00b0.
    Butter a shallow 9 x 13-inch baking dish or large casserole.
    In heavy saucepan, heat milk over medium heat.
    Slowly sprinkle in the cornmeal, whisking as you do so. Continue to stir with a wooden spoon for 10 minutes, until thickened.
    Lower heat.
    Add remaining ingredients; stir.
    Pour carefully into baking dish.
    Bake for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Serve warm.
    Top with vanilla ice cream.
