Turnips Au Gratin - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. turnips, peeled and diced
    1/4 c. butter
    3 Tbsp. flour
    3/4 tsp. salt
    dash of pepper
    2 c. milk
    1/2 c. sharp cheese, grated
    1 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
    2 Tbsp. melted butter
Preparation
    Cook turnips in boiling salted water until almost tender, about 5 minutes.
    Drain well.
    Melt 1/4 cup butter in saucepan; stir in flour, salt and pepper.
    Add milk all at once.
    Cook quickly, stirring constantly, until thickened.
    Remove from heat; add cheese and stir to blend.
    Stir sauce into cooked turnips and pour into buttered baking dish.
    Mix crumbs and melted butter; sprinkle over top.
    Bake until golden in 10 x 6 x 2-inch casserole in 375\u00b0 oven for 30 minutes.
    Serves 6 to 8.
