18 Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. salt
    1 gal. sliced cucumbers (cover in water)
    2 Tbsp. alum
    9 c. sugar
    water
    vinegar
Preparation
    Add salt to cucumbers.\tLet stand 4 days.
    Wash pickles 3 times.
    Add
    alum
    and
    fill
    with water.
    Let stand 1 day. Rinse well.
    Pour
    vinegar
    over pickles.
    Let stand 10 days. Drain vinegar and rinse.\tAdd 3 cups sugar.
    Repeat last step for
    3 days.
    (Total
    9 cups sugar.) Store in gallon jug.\tNo seal necessary.
