Mama Ruth'S Cooked Caramel Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. white sugar
    1 stick butter
    1 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Put sugar and butter in an iron skillet and stir until mixture turns a light caramel color.
    Stir frequently.
    Add milk slowly (it will have a tendency to boil over).
    Cook about 5 minutes after it begins to boil.
    cook until softball stage. Remove from heat, add vanilla and cool.
    Stir until thick enough to ice cake.
