Shriners Kula Onion Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. unsalted butter
    7 or 8 kula onions, cut in big chunks
    1/2 c. uncooked short grain rice
    8 c. boiling salted water
    1 c. grated Swiss cheese
    2/3 c. half and half
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 325\u00b0.
    Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat.
    Add onions.
    Saute until transparent.
    Cook rice in boiling water 5 minutes.
    Drain.
    Add rice, cheese and half and half to onions.
    Pour into shallow 2-quart baking dish and bake uncovered 1 hour.
