Navy Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. white beans (Northern)
    2 Tbsp. (on the heavy side) ham base
    2 c. diced ham, cooked
    2 carrots, finely chopped
    1 onion, finely chopped
    2 celery stalks, finely chopped
    1/4 c. roux (flour and oil paste)
Preparation
    Wash beans thoroughly.
    In a large stockpot, cover beans with water to within 3-inches of top of pot.
    Cook on medium heat approximately 3 hours or until beans are soft.
