Biscuit Tortoni - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 egg whites (at room temperature)
    1/4 c. water
    3/4 c. sugar
    dash of salt
    1/4 c. whole blanched almonds
    1 3/4 tsp. almond extract, divided
    1 1/2 c. heavy cream
    3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
    12 candied cherries or maraschino cherries, drained and blotted dry
Preparation
    Be sure egg whites are at room temperature.
    This takes about 1 hour after removing from the refrigerator.
