Plum Tomato Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. fresh plum tomatoes, coarsely chopped (about 3 c.)
    1 (14 oz.) can whole plum tomatoes with their juice
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. chicken broth
    1 Tbsp. tomato paste
    2 Tbsp. or more fresh basil or 3/4 Tbsp. dried basil
    1 tsp. sugar
    2 medium leeks (white part only), washed and finely chopped (about 2 c.) or 2 c. finely chopped onion
Preparation
    In a 2-quart saucepan, combine the fresh and canned tomatoes with their juice; bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
    Add the baking soda; cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
    Stir in the chicken broth, tomato paste, basil, sugar and leeks.
    Reduce the heat to medium-low.
    Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
    Serve hot.
