Never Fail Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. powdered alum
    cucumbers
    1/8 c. pickling spices
    1/4 c. salt
    pure vinegar
    8 c. sugar
Preparation
    Put powdered alum in gallon jar.
    Slice cucumbers to fill jar. Cover with cold water.
    Let sit 24 hours.
    Drain and rinse 2 or 3 times.
    Put pickling spices and salt in jar with pickles and cover with pure vinegar.
    Let sit for 6 weeks in cool place, then drain off vinegar and add sugar.
    Let sit 3 weeks.
    Ready to eat.
    Never seal jar.
    Keep in refrigerator.
