Bloomin Onion(From Tampa Tribune) - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1 large Texas Sweet or Vidalia onion
boiling water
beaten egg
ice water
2 Tbsp. flour
1 c. cracker crumbs or coating mix
oil for deep frying
Preparation
-
Select a well rounded onion.
Peel outer skin off.
Leave root intact.
Cut off any hanging roots.
Using small sharp knife, divide onion into four sections by making 2 cuts crosswise, beginning at the top and cut toward the root, stop 1/2-inch from root.
Cut each section twice.
Place onion in a bowl of boiling water to cover it and leave 5 minutes.
This will open the onion up.
Soon as they open, put in ice water.
This helps with the opening.
Drain well, drain upside down.
Put flour in paper bag, add onion in beaten egg to cover.
Put cracker crumbs or coating in paper bag. Add onion and shake gently to coat.
Refrigerate for 1 hour before deep frying to a golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Cooked onion may be kept for a time in warm oven.
Use favorite dip.
