"Sugar'S" Oven-Baked Butter Bread - cooking recipe

1 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. butter, melted
1 c. buttermilk
1 egg
Preparation

Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
Put shortening in a 9-inch cast-iron skillet and put in the oven to melt shortening and to heat skillet.
Mix the dry ingredients.
Beat buttermilk and egg together.
Stir them into the dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly but do not beat.
The batter is best when left as a slightly lumpy mixture.
Pout hot shortening from skillet into batter.
Stir briefly.
Pour batter into hot skillet.
Bake 18 to 20 minutes. Serve hot with butter and jelly.
