Deep South Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 (15 oz.) cans pinto beans
    1/2 lb. lean ham, diced
    3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
    1 Tbsp. bacon drippings
    1/2 tsp. ground cumin
    1 medium onion, minced
    1 c. water
    1 medium garlic, minced
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients in a heavy pot.
    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer.
    Cook 30 to 45 minutes, uncovered.
    Add a small amount of extra water, if needed.
    Serves 4.
