Wassail(Old English In The Fifth Century) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. fine sugar
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. ginger
    3 cloves
    1/4 tsp. mace
    3 tsp. allspice
    1 c. water
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    6 eggs, separated
    18 oz. brandy
    2 (26 oz.) bottles dry sherry
Preparation
    In a large kettle, combine sugar, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, mace, allspice, cinnamon and water.
    Stir until sugar is dissolved.
    Add sherry and simmer over low heat.
    Beat egg whites and yolks separately, then add to the sherry mixture.
    Simmer 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
    Stir in brandy.
    Remove from heat and serve in mugs.
