Red Hots - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers, peeled, sliced and seeded
    1 c. lime
    1 Tbsp. alum
    3 c. vinegar
    10 c. sugar
    8 sticks cinnamon
    1 pkg. red hot candies
    2 bottles red food coloring
Preparation
    Soak cucumber slices in lime and water for 24 hours.
    Wash and soak in ice water for 3 hours.
    Mix 1 cup vinegar, alum and water to cover and simmer for 2 hours.
    Pour off liquid.
