Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 c. vegetable oil
    3 c. cornmeal
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. water
    1 egg, beaten
    1 small onion, minced
Preparation
    In a deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 365\u00b0.
    In large mixing bowl, combine all other ingredients; blend well.
    Shape batter into small balls, approximately 1 tablespoon each.
    Use a long handle spoon to slide balls into the oil.
    Cook hush puppies, 8 or 10 at a time, until brown.
    Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon.
    Roll on paper towels until drained.
    Serve hot.
    Makes 2 dozen.
