Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    5 eggs, separated
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped pecans
    1 small can (1 c.) coconut
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. softened cream cheese
    1 stick oleo, at room temperature
    1 box (3 1/2 c.) confectioners sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cream the cream cheese and oleo well; add vanilla.
    Beat in sugar, a little at a time, until of spreading consistency.
