Ingredients

2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter or margarine
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon extract (orange works too)
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
Preparation

In mixer bowl, cream together sugar, shortening and butter until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla and lemon extract. Thoroughly stir together flour and baking soda.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition.
