Peach Melba Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. sugar, divided
    4 c. sliced peaches (2 lb. or 8 medium)
    2 c. biscuit mix
    1 egg
    2/3 c. milk
    1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1/4 c. red raspberry jam (preferably seedless)
    1 1/2 c. heavy cream, whipped and sweetened to taste
    peach slices for garnish
Preparation
    In medium bowl, sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar over peach slices; let stand an hour.
