Mesir - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 c. dried lentils
    4 c. water
    2 tsp. salt
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1/3 c. vegetable oil
    1/3 c. chopped red onion
    1 tsp. dried onion flakes
    1/2 c. water
    1 tsp. crushed red pepper
Preparation
    Place lentils, water, salt and garlic in a 3-quart casserole. Bring to a brisk boil; cover and lower heat.
    Simmer about 1 hour. While lentils are cooking, heat oil in a frypan.
    Saute onion until tender, about 5 minutes.
    Add onion flakes, water and red pepper; simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes.
    When lentils are done, drain and add to onion mixture.
    Stir.
    Cook 15 minutes.
    Makes 4 to 6 servings.
