Gratin Dauphinois(Creamed Potatoes) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 5 c.)
    1 clove garlic, peeled
    6 Tbsp. butter
    pinch of nutmeg
    1 1/2 c. heavy cream
    3 Tbsp. butter or bacon fat
    1 small onion, peeled and diced
    2 c. shredded cooked cabbage
    2 c. leftover mashed potatoes
Preparation
    Heat butter over moderate heat until melted.
    Add onion; saute until tender.
    Combine cabbage and mashed potatoes.
    Add to skillet; press with fork to form large cake.
    Cook over moderate heat until well browned.
    Loosen potato cake with spatula; slide onto plate.
    Flip back into skillet, uncooked side down.
    Cook until well browned.
    Serve this cut into wedges.
    Makes 4 servings.
