Chicken In Its Own Gravy - cooking recipe

3 to 3 1/2 lb. chicken
1/4 c. butter
1 1/4 c. (10 3/4 oz. can) cream of mushroom soup
1 c. (4 oz.) shredded American cheese
2/3 c. undiluted Carnation evaporated milk
1/3 c. water
1 1/3 c. (10 oz. pkg.) thawed frozen small onions
3/4 c. (4 1/2 oz. jar) sliced mushrooms and liquid
1/4 c. flour
1/8 tsp. pepper
Preparation

Coat chicken pieces with 1/4 cup flour.
Melt butter in 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.
Bake, uncovered, in hot oven (425\u00b0) for 30 minutes.
Turn chicken; bake 15 to 20 minutes longer, or until tender.
Drain off fat.
Reduce temperature to slow (325\u00b0). Combine cheese, soup, milk, water and pepper.
Stir in frozen onions and mushrooms and liquid; pour over chicken.
Sprinkle with paprika.
Cover with foil; continue baking 15 to 20 minutes.
