Swiss Steak - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 (1 1/2 lb. and 1 1/2-inch thick) slice round steak or chuck steak
3/8 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
2 to 3 Tbsp. shortening
1 medium onion, sliced
1 1/2 to 3 c. tomatoes or tomato juice or tomato soup
Preparation

Wipe steak with damp cloth.
Cut into serving portions.
Mix flour and seasonings.
Pound flour mixture into steak with meat pounder.
Heat shortening in frying pan.
Add onion and cook until golden, stirring two or three times.
Remove onion and set aside. Add steak and cook until golden brown, turning once.
Return onion to pan.
Pour tomatoes over steak.
Cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until tender.
