Old-Fashioned Bread Dressing - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1/4 c. reduced-fat margarine
5 celery ribs, chopped
1/4 tsp. dried thyme
1 tsp. dried sage
1 tsp. salt (optional)
1/4 tsp. ground pepper
2 lb. loaves dried white bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/3 c. chopped parsley
2 to 3 c. canned chicken broth (fat-free, no salt added)
Preparation
-
Melt margarine in a large skillet. Add celery and onion. Saut until tender. Stir in thyme, sage, salt (if using) and pepper. Set aside. Mix dried broken bread and parsley into the vegetable mixture. In medium saucepan, heat broth to a simmer. Place dressing mixture in a large mixing bowl. Starting with about 2 cups of hot broth, pour over top of bread mixture, stirring until evenly moistened, adding more broth for a moist consistency. Transfer mixture to a shallow casserole. Cover and bake in a preheated 325\u00b0 oven for 30 minutes. Uncover and continue to bake until lightly browned, about another 15 to 20 minutes.
