Mom'S Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. canning salt
    1 qt. white vinegar
    3 qt. water
    alum
    garlic and dill
    red hot candies
    hot peppers or crushed red peppers (optional)
Preparation
    Boil together first 3 ingredients.
    Wash and pack pickles in quart jars.
    Put in alum the size of 2 peas, 3 or 4 pieces of garlic, dill to taste and 3 red hot candies in each jar.
    You may also add 2 red hot peppers or crushed red peppers.
    This will cover 6 quarts.
    After the water boils, let it set about 5 minutes, then pour over the pickles in jars and seal.
    Boil your lids also.
    Sometimes the jars don't seal, but they don't spoil. Ready to eat in about 3 weeks.
