Date Orange Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 unbeaten eggs, one at a time
1 tsp. soda
pinch of salt
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
4 c. flour
2 tsp. grated orange peel
1 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. chopped dates

Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening.
Add eggs, one at a time.
Add soda and salt to buttermilk; then add alternately to creamed mixture with flour.
Add orange peel, nuts and dates.
Bake in 1-piece angel food cake pan (large), greased and floured well, 1 1/2 hours at 300\u00b0.
