Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Custard Filling (recipe follows)
Snow Peak Frosting (recipe follows)
2 c. grated fresh coconut
2 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1/3 c. cornstarch
1 tsp. orange flavoring
1 c. grated fresh coconut
Preparation

Combine first 4 ingredients in a heavy saucepan; stir with a wire whisk until well blended.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth.
Stir in flavoring.
Chill thoroughly.
Stir in coconut.
