Lentil-Barley-Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 c. water
    1 lb. canned tomatoes, cut up
    1 medium onion, diced *
    1 large carrot, diced *
    2 cloves garlic, minced *
    1 c. dried lentils, rinsed and picked over
    1 c. barley
    1/4 c. dried lima beans
    1 tsp. thyme
    1/2 tsp. each: oregano and basil or use fresh basil
    2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 small potato, turnip and/or parsnip, diced (optional)
    chopped spinach or kale (1 or 2 c., optional)
    1/2 c. fine soup noodles
Preparation
    *Can be chopped in food processor.
