Pot Roast - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. chuck roast
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    2 onions, sliced
    2 cloves garlic
    1 c. water
    1/2 c. catsup
    1 tsp. salt
    pepper
    1/8 tsp. pickling spices
    potatoes
    carrots
Preparation
    Brown meat well in hot shortening.
    Add onions, garlic, water, catsup, salt, pepper and spices (tied in cloth bag).
    Simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
    Cover; simmer for 2 1/2 hours.
    Add water as needed.
    Add potatoes and carrots.
    Cook for 2 hours.
