Carnival Dessert - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 eggs
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. each: salt and soda
    2 to 2 1/2 c. sour cherries, drained
    nuts (if desired)
Preparation
    Cream shortening, eggs and sugar and add milk alternately with flour, baking powder, salt, soda and sour cherries.
    Add nuts. Bake in 8 x 12-inch pan for 50 minutes at 350\u00b0.
    Serve warm with sauce.
