Prize Laundry Soap - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1 can lye
2 qt. water
5 lb. clean strained grease or tallow
2 Tbsp. powdered Borax
2 Tbsp. liquid ammonia
Preparation
-
Dissolve lye in 2 quarts of water.
Add grease or tallow.
It is important that the grease and lye are just warm, not hot, and that the grease is poured slowly into the lye.
Stir slowly for 10 to 15 minutes.
Then bring to boiling point and let boil 5 minutes.
Remove from fire and stir in powdered Borax.
Set aside and stir occasionally until the mixture begins to cool.
Then add liquid ammonia.
Stir round and round, slowly and evenly, until it is the consistency of cake batter.
Then turn into a mold and permit it to cool in the kettle.
