Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. yellow cornmeal
    1 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
    1 Tbsp. baking powder
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. black pepper
    pinch of cayenne pepper
    1 egg
    1 c. water
    1 medium onion, chopped
    about 1/2 c. vegetable oil
Preparation
    In mixing bowl, combine first 6 ingredients; beat egg with half of water.
    Stir into cornmeal mixture.
    Stir in onion and just enough water to make a thick batter.
    (Batter should drop, not pour from spoon.)
    Heat oil to very hot.
    Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls into the hot oil.
    Cook uncovered about 3 minutes.
