Apple Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 1/2 c. sliced apples
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 c. rolled oats
Preparation
    Sift flour, salt and soda.
    Add brown sugar and oats.
    Cut in shortening until crumbly.
    Spread half of mixture into greased 7 x 11-inch baking dish.
    Add apples and sprinkle with sugar.
    Add remaining crumb mixture.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes.
    Cut into bars and serve warm; or serve cold as a cookie.
