Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 stick margarine
    1 c. coconut
    1/2 c. vegetable shortening
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
    5 egg whites, stiffly beaten
    2 c. sugar
    5 egg yolks
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cream butter and shortening.
    Add sugar and beat until mixture is smooth.
    Add egg yolks and beat well.
    Sift flour, salt and soda; sift again.
    Add flour and buttermilk to cream mixture. Stir in vanilla, coconut and nuts.
    Fold in egg whites.
    Pour in 3 greased and floured 8-inch pans.
    Bake for 25 minutes at 350\u00b0. Ice with Cream Cheese Icing.
