Pralines - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. chopped pecans
    1 Tbsp. oleo
Preparation
    Mix soda and buttermilk and then dissolve sugar.
    Use a big saucepan and boil slowly to soft ball stage, 234\u00b0.
    Mixture turns brown as it cooks, but stir constantly to prevent scorching. Remove from fire and add vanilla, oleo and pecans.
    Stir until it begins to look like it is ready to cream.
    Drop in small cakes on waxed paper.
    Makes about 30 pralines.
