Popcorn Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. dark syrup
    1/2 c. water
    1 lb. peanut butter (plain or crunchy)
    1 Tbsp. butter
    a generous quantity of freshly popped corn (about a dishpan full)
Preparation
    Mix all ingredients, except popped corn, and cook slowly until the soft ball stage.
    In large pan, pour cooked mixture over popped corn and mix fast.
    Pour in pan lined with wax paper, if desired.
    May be packed firmly and cut into bars.
    I have made this each year for Christmas since 1945.
