Last Minute Fruit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. raisins
    1 1/2 c. chopped dates
    2 c. sugar
    5 Tbsp. shortening
    3 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Place raisins, dates, sugar, shortening and 2 cups of boiling water in saucepan and simmer 20 minutes.
    Cool the mixture.
    Sift flour, soda and spices together and stir into the cooled mixture. Add nuts last, coated with a little flour.
    Pour into well-greased and floured loaf pans.
    Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325\u00b0.
    When cool, wrap in foil or wax paper.
    The cakes stay moist and keep well.
