Saucy Jello - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. applesauce
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    2 pkg. Jell-O (sweetened or unsweetened)
    1 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
Preparation
    Heat applesauce to boiling.
    Add lemon juice and simmer 10 to 15 minutes, until very thick.
    Add cherry Jell-O powder and stir until dissolved.
    Remove from heat and stir in walnuts.
    Pour into an 8 x 8-inch pan which has been rinsed with cold water.
    Cool to room temperature and refrigerate until set.
    Cut into 1-inch squares.
    Can be dusted with powdered sugar.
    Makes about 64 squares.
