Smothered Beef - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 Tbsp. shortening (can substitute water)
2 lb. beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 tsp. garlic salt or 1 clove
8 oz. tomato sauce
1 c. water
1 tsp. salt
3 bay leaves
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
1/8 tsp. black pepper
1 large onion, chopped

Preparation

Melt shortening (or use water) to brown meat.
Add garlic, tomato sauce, water, salt, sugar, mustard, pepper and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer 1 hour.
Add onions and cook 20 minutes.
Serve over rice.
