Capital Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. sugar
    4 c. flour, sifted
    1 c. butter
    1 c. morning's milk
    6 eggs, beaten light
    2 tsp. cream of tartar
    sift in flour
    1 tsp. soda, dissolved in milk
    flavor with lemon or nutmeg
