Black Walnut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2/3 c. milk
    4 egg whites
    1/3 c. walnut meats
Preparation
    Cream shortening.
    Add 1 cup sugar and beat until fluffy.
    Add vanilla.
    Sift in dry ingredients alternately with milk.
    Beat egg whites.
    Add 1/3 cup sugar gradually, until stiff.
    Fold into batter.
    Add 1 cup nuts.
    Pour into 2 (8-inch) pans and bake for 25 minutes at 375\u00b0.
    Top with your favorite frosting and on sides and between layers.
    Sprinkle nuts on top.
