Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening or margarine
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 1/2 c. raisins
    2 c. English walnuts
    2 jars maraschino cherries, cut in half and drained
    3 1/2 c. self-rising flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 to 2 tsp. cinnamon
    2 tsp. soda
    2 c. or 1 can applesauce, heated
Preparation
    Sift together the dry ingredients.
    Sprinkle a few tablespoons of flour over nuts, cherries and raisins.
    Cream shortening, sugar and add eggs.
    Add dry ingredients and nuts, cherries and raisins. Add hot applesauce.
    Grease and flour a tube cake pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
    Cake is similar to a fruit cake. Place cool cake in a tin for about 1 week before serving.
    Freezes well.
