Linzer Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1 c. dry bread crumbs
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. grated lemon peel
    1 c. butter
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
Preparation
    Mix first 5 ingredients.
    Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    Add egg gradually, tossing with fork until flour mixture is moistened.
    Shape into ball, flatten slightly.
    On floured surface, roll 2/3 of dough into a 16 x 11-inch rectangle. Place in ungreased 15 x 10-inch jelly roll pan (dough should go up sides).
    Spread pie filling on dough.
    Roll remaining dough 1/4-inch thick; cut strips 1/2-inch wide.
    Crisscross strips over filling.
    Press ends to border.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool in pan.
