Sweet And Sour Red Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 large heads red cabbage
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. cider vinegar
    2 (16 oz.) cans applesauce
    1 can water
    3 Tbsp. shortening (Crisco)
    1 Tbsp. salt (salt to taste)
Preparation
    Chop, slice, etc. the red cabbage.
    Bring ingredients to boil; turn down heat and simmer for 3 to 4 hours.
    Taste; if more vinegar or sugar is needed, use to your taste.
    After cabbage has cooled, place in pint and quart containers and freeze.
    Excellent.
    Keeps for months and up to a year in freezer.
