Doughnuts (Mom'S) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 egg
    1/2 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. melted Crisco
    1/2 c. milk
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. mace (optional)
    Crisco for frying
Preparation
    Combine beaten egg, sugar and melted Crisco.
    Add milk.
    Mix flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and mace.
    Combine the liquid and dry ingredients, stirring only until smooth.
    Roll dough to 1/2-inch thick on floured board or pastry cloth.
    Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Fry in Crisco heated to 365\u00b0.
    (An inch square of bread browns in 60 seconds.)
    Turn doughnuts when brown.
    Fry until golden brown on both sides (3 to 5 minutes).
    Remove.
    Drain on paper towels in stand up position.
    Makes 12 to 14.
