Kolache - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. milk
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. shortening, melted
    3 pkg. dry yeast
    3 egg yolks plus 1 whole egg, beaten
    5 or 6 c. all-purpose flour
Preparation
    Dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in 1/2 cup warm water and set aside.
    Scald milk and let cool to lukewarm, then add sugar, salt, melted shortening, and beaten eggs.
    Mix well, then beat in 3 c. flour.
    Add in yeast mixture and mix well, then add flour in batches to make a soft dough.
    After dough is mixed well, put into lightly greased bowl, turning to grease all sides.
    Place in a warm draft free spot and let rise until double in bulk.
    Make balls of dough and put on greased baking sheet and let rise; then push centers of balls down and fill depression with canned cherry, apricot, pineapple, poppy seed or prune filling. Let rise again and bake in 400\u00b0 oven until golden brown.
    Remove from baking sheet and cool on a rack.
