Old Hickory'S Boiled Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 medium head cabbage
    1 red pepper pod
    1 ham hock
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Place the ham hock in a kettle of water and cook for about one hour.
    Add the cabbage, salt and pepper.
    Cook slowly until nearly dry.
    Just before taking up, add 1 tablespoon of sugar.
    Be sure to serve with cornbread.
    It is good reheated again.
