Ripe Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. peeled cukes
    3 1/2 lb. sugar
    1 pt. vinegar
    1/2 tsp. oil of cloves
    1/2 tsp. oil of cinnamon
    1 tsp. soda
    2 tsp. alum
Preparation
    Cover cukes with cold water; add 1 teaspoon soda.
    Soak overnight.
    Drain.
    Cover with cold water.
    Add 2 teaspoons alum; boil 10 minutes.
    Bring syrup of remaining ingredients to a boil; pour over fruit.
    Let stand overnight.
    The third day, repeat again.
    The fourth day, reheat syrup and cukes together and seal in hot jars.
